“Google Workspace flexibility and scalability, combined with SoftwareOne’s expertise, give us tremendous confidence about the success of adopting the collaboration tools company-wide.” - Cristina Frontera Rossello, Business Technology Project Manager, Camper

Spanish footwear brand Camper has nearly 50 years of experience in providing customers with affordable, yet stylish shoes, sandals, boots, and sneakers.

“Camper means austerity, simplicity, and discretion in the rural world,” says Cristina Frontera Rossello, Business Technology Project Manager at Camper. “Our respect for tradition, art, and craftsmanship is our greatest promise to our customers. Our footwear is influenced by the history, culture, and diversity of the Mediterranean. This all helps inform our people-centered approach to creating sustainable footwear that our customers love.”

Technology and design innovation have been core to Camper’s success over the years. The company constantly looks to adopt the best strategies, materials, and designs to improve footwear and the experiences customers enjoy when buying products.

Collaboration is key to the company’s success because teams across the organization, including product design, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution all have to collaborate closely to keep projects moving ahead on budget and on schedule. To fuel collaboration, Camper chose Google Workspace and partner SoftwareOne for their expertise in optimizing how people work inside and outside the company.

Unifying collaboration across stores and corporate offices

“Our corporate offices and stores now work more closely and efficiently together. Across all our groups, people are sharing information and collaborating faster than ever thanks to Google Workspace and SoftwareOne.” - Cristina Frontera Rossello, Business Technology Project Manager, Camper

When using its legacy collaboration suite, Camper teams company-wide struggled to quickly and easily share information and collaborate with one another.

“Our teams rely upon each other to complete projects, but we found that our localized, segmented approach to managing information and communication made teamwork challenging,” says Cristina. “We knew we could modernize and improve how our teams communicate and collaborate by moving to a cloud solution. With its ease of use and track record, Google Workspace was the clear choice for us.”

Camper took a focused approach to rolling out Google Workspace and evangelized key capabilities among employees for each of the apps so they felt more confident using the tools. Many of them were already familiar with Google Workspace tools from their own personal use. Camper worked to first migrate key managers from each department to Google Workspace, and then encouraged them to talk with others in their organizations about the advantages of using the new integrated solution.

The migration process also unlocked other opportunities for Camper to begin digitizing outdated processes to reduce time spent on repetitive administrative tasks.

At the same time, Camper relied on the support of SoftwareOne to help it test and pilot successful solution rollouts. “SoftwareOne and Google Workspace allow us to identify solutions and quickly validate they will work to meet our needs,” says Cristina. “Google Workspace’s flexibility and scalability, combined with SoftwareOne’s expertise, give us tremendous confidence about the success of adopting the collaboration tools company-wide.”

As one of the early migration objectives was to improve collaboration between corporate offices and stores, SoftwareOne assisted Camper to develop an application that used Calendar, Drive, and Google Photos to better manage events and tasks. This enables teams in corporate offices to more clearly communicate details about how to place products in stores, and enables stores to report back on performance in real-time.

“Thanks to our improved collaboration, we can obtain and analyze performance data faster to understand which initiatives or projects are working well and put them on the market more quickly,” says Cristina. “Our projects are having greater impacts in shorter amounts of time.”

Camper also uses Google Sites to keep information centralized and accessible to all stores, including training, product information, retail calendars, and Google reviews. Store performance dashboards from BigQuery and Looker Studio are also accessible through Google Sites.

For example, during sales events, stores need to put certain signage in windows and place branded imagery on tables. Stores also used Google Workspace to switch store shifts and manage tasks around the shop. Corporate offices can communicate best practices, while stores upload pictures in Google Photos that link to a Calendar event for the sale to ensure everyone is on the same page. Team members can also collaborate on content in real-time using Shared Drives and Docs.

“Our corporate offices and stores now work more closely and efficiently together. Across all our groups, people are sharing information and collaborating faster than ever thanks to Google Workspace and SoftwareOne,” says Cristina.

Camper completed its migration to Google Workspace before the start of the pandemic and attributes its successful navigation of stay-home orders to the cloud-based collaboration supported by the Google solution.

“Before adopting Google Workspace, the pandemic would have negatively impacted our employees’ productivity,” says Cristina. “Now, we just need an internet connection to keep everyone moving ahead with their work and collaborating efficiently. Our success using Google Workspace when we had to shift to working from home accelerated our adoption of new features in both Google Workspace and Google Cloud.”

Becoming a more data-driven business

As the move to Google Workspace provided an immediate boost to productivity, Camper expanded its use of Google technologies by beginning to use BigQuery as a unified data repository. Camper worked to migrate and upload its data from various systems, including customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP), Marketing Automation, eCommerce, logistics, and email marketing tools, into BigQuery and Google Cloud Storage.

SoftwareOne helped Camper migrate all of these data sources into a unified data warehouse built on BigQuery, allowing the company to analyze information from all applications at once rather than having to analyze data from each separately.

This strategy replaced localized, manual data entry processes to capture information about specific store performance, including special offers, as well as other transactional and customer-facing information of note. Previously, efficiently gaining this level of insight was problematic, and even impossible, for analysts at corporate offices, as each department was creating their own reports and following different criteria.

SoftwareOne helped Camper create workflows to upload timely data into BigQuery, replicate it as necessary to ensure systems accuracy across systems, and then leverage Looker Studio to manage specific data-related tasks.

“SoftwareOne’s support unlocked the power of BigQuery and greatly reduced how much manual work is needed to access and analyze our data,” says Cristina.

With BigQuery in place, Camper gains valuable visibility into effective retail strategies to attract customers to shop in stores and online. For instance, Camper teams can now access loyalty data captured in a store and create dashboards to share insights from that information with other store managers around the globe.

“With SoftwareOne’s guidance and the use of BigQuery, we removed obstacles that prevented our in-store and corporate teams from sharing information effectively,” says Cristina. “This has been a big success. We’re now even better at setting sales goals and increasing in-store sales.”

With Looker Studio as the front end of the new Camper data platform and Google Cloud Storage and BigQuery capturing and managing that data, Camper has also seen employee productivity rise and more projects completed faster. Sheets acts as a source of data entry to further feed the data platform.

Advancing technology adoption for even more success

Camper is now beginning to explore other Google Cloud capabilities to further refine how it enhances and personalizes every customer experience. Through continued collaboration with SoftwareOne to guide new deployments, Camper is finding new ways to improve everyday operations across all areas of its business.

“We continue to improve our ability to identify, personalize experiences, and engage with our customers across channels thanks to Google Cloud, Google Workspace, and SoftwareOne,” says Cristina. “Google Cloud has also set us on a path to use with AI/ML as part of our growth strategies. By reaching our customers at the right time with the right message and through the best channel, we strengthen our brand and support our business success.”
